Wayne State University student-athlete Mahmoud Elsayed achieved significant success at the Juniors and Cadets African Championships held in Luanda, Angola from March 1-3. Competing both individually and as part of Team Egypt, Elsayed's performance stood out.
In the individual epee category, Elsayed won all six of his bouts during pool play with a touch differential of +24 (30-6), securing him the top seed for the direct elimination stage. He advanced through the Table of 16 with a 15-3 victory, followed by wins in the Table of Eight (15-8) and Semifinals (15-8). In the final match, he faced Youssef Shamel, another member of Team Egypt. Elsayed emerged victorious with a score of 15-10, earning him the individual Gold Medal.
As part of Team Egypt in team epee events, they received a bye to the Table of Eight and subsequently faced Angola in the Semifinals. The team won decisively with a scoreline of 45-20, where Elsayed contributed a +8 touch differential across three rounds (5-4, 5-2, 5-1). The team's success continued in the Finals against South Africa, winning 45-32 to secure another Gold Medal. In this match, Elsayed recorded a +6 touch differential (4-1, 5-3, 5-4).
