Wayne State softball team heads to Florida for spring break games

The Wayne State University softball team is set to embark on its spring break road trip, with a series of games scheduled for March 8-9. The Warriors, currently holding a 3-6 record after losing their last five games, will compete in Florida.

The team's first game in Florida will be against Ohio Dominican at 9 a.m. on Saturday. All matches are planned to take place at the Legends Way complex in Clermont, Florida. Later that day, Wayne State will face off against Wayne State College from Nebraska at 11:30 a.m.

On Sunday, the Warriors will play Sioux Falls at 11:30 a.m., followed by a match against Lake Erie College at 4:15 p.m.

Senior designated player Rylie Josephson leads the Warriors with a .577 batting average and three doubles. Freshman Katelyn DeWitt has been impressive with two home runs and 13 RBIs. Junior Grace Fisher holds the best ERA on the team at 2.49 over 25.1 innings pitched.

Ohio Dominican enters their Florida schedule with a record of 4-6 and will play Grand Valley State and Concordia-St. Paul before facing Wayne State. Sophomore Addie Triplett boasts a .500 batting average, while freshman Emma Grau leads their pitching staff with an ERA of 3.00.

Wayne State College comes into the weekend with an even record of 7-7 and features freshman Leah Chance who is hitting .462 this season. Senior Grace Lucka leads their pitching efforts with an ERA of 1.94 over six appearances.

Sioux Falls has compiled a record of 9-7 ahead of their final Florida contest against Wayne State on Sunday. Junior Jaeleigh Darnell has been strong offensively for Sioux Falls, hitting .467 this season.

Lake Erie is still seeking its first win of the season as they enter Sunday's game against Mankato before taking on Wayne State later that day.
