Wayne State University sophomore Sydney Long has been recognized as the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office. Long's performance during the Warriors' spring break trip was notable, with her achieving a 1-0 record and a complete game shutout over two starts and three appearances.

Long recorded a 1.62 ERA, striking out 15 batters while allowing only two walks in 13 innings. She conceded just 12 hits, holding opposing hitters to a .231 batting average. In one of her outings against Indiana (Pa.), Long allowed three earned runs over five innings with three strikeouts, contributing to a late-game rally that secured a 6-5 victory for Wayne State in eight innings.

Additionally, Long pitched two scoreless relief innings against Shepherd. Her standout performance came against Saint Michael's, where she struck out ten batters without issuing any walks and allowed only five hits in a six-inning 9-0 win.

Wayne State is set to continue its schedule after returning from Florida with a home non-conference doubleheader against Northwood on Wednesday, March 19th. The first pitch at Gary L. Bryce Field is slated for 3 p.m.
