The Wayne State University softball team will begin the northern segment of its schedule with a doubleheader against Northwood University. The games are set to take place at Gary L. Bryce Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Warriors have improved their record to 10-11 after a successful spring break trip where they went 7-5. Leading the team's offense are freshmen Elly Koopman and Katelyn DeWitt. Koopman, from Hudsonville, Michigan, has a batting average of .417 and leads the GLIAC in this category. DeWitt, hailing from Grand Blanc, Michigan, has scored 21 runs, which is also a league-high.
Wayne State's team batting average stands at .296, leading the conference alongside their .449 slugging percentage and 106 runs scored. Head coach Nicole Tines has employed five pitchers this season. Among them is freshman Elly Koopman who boasts a 3-0 record with an ERA of 1.56. Junior Grace Fisher and sophomore Sydney Long have also been notable contributors on the mound.
