Wayne State fencers perform at NCAA Women's Fencing Championships

Reka Galfalvy and Ludovica Mancini represented Wayne State University at the NCAA Women's Fencing Championships, which took place on Saturday in University Park, Pennsylvania. The two athletes competed in different categories, with Galfalvy participating in epee and Mancini in foil.

In the epee category, sophomore Reka Galfalvy won six out of her 15 bouts, ending the day with a 6-9 record and a touch differential of -8 (56-64). Her victories included matches against Anya Mehrotra from Yale (5-4), Maria Alvim from Sacred Heart (5-2), Alice Lan from the University of California San Diego (5-3), Gloria Klughardt from Ohio State (5-4), as well as Christina Watrall (5-4) and Elizabeth Kim (5-2) from the United States Air Force Academy.

Ludovica Mancini, who was making her second appearance at the NCAA Championships, achieved three wins out of 15 bouts in the foil category. She finished with a touch differential of -29 (39-68). Her wins were against Rebeca Candescu from Notre Dame (5-3), Katina Proestakis Ortiz from Pennsylvania (5-4), and Yukari Takamizawa from Northwestern (5-1).

The combined efforts of both men's and women's squads have placed Wayne State University 16th among 33 schools going into the final day of competition.

Galfalvy and Mancini are scheduled to compete again tomorrow, March 23rd, for the concluding day of the NCAA Championships.
