Wayne State softball splits doubleheader with Ferris State

Wayne State University's softball team split a doubleheader against Ferris State University on Sunday. The Warriors now hold a 12-15 overall record, with a 1-3 standing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Ferris State holds a 12-6 overall record and is 1-1 in GLIAC play.

In the first game, Ferris State secured a 9-1 victory. The Bulldogs scored six runs in the seventh inning to clinch the win. Wayne State managed one run in their final inning after freshman Elly Koopman singled and was driven home by Hunter Near's double.

"FSU sealed the road win with a six-run top of the seventh on six hits and a walk," noted Wayne State.

The Warriors' pitcher, Sydney Long, allowed eight earned runs over 6.1 innings, while FSU's Catherine O'Donohue limited Wayne State to three hits and one run over six innings.

The second game saw Wayne State claim a narrow 5-4 victory. Logan Forman hit her fourth home run of the season, contributing to an early lead for Wayne State. The Warriors added four more runs in the second inning.

"The Bulldogs pulled within two at 5-3 in the top of the third on a walk, a single and a three-run home run to center field by Kozlowski," recounted Wayne State.

Grace Fisher pitched for Wayne State, allowing four earned runs over seven innings but securing the win despite late pressure from Ferris State.

Next up for Wayne State is another GLIAC doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday at Gary L. Bryce Field, starting at 3:30 p.m.
