Wayne State University's men's golf team is positioned in third place after the first day of competition at the Findlay Spring Invitational. The event, held at Boone's Trace National Golf Club, features 18 teams. Wayne State recorded a score of 569 (-7) over two rounds, just two strokes behind leaders Findlay and Missouri-St. Louis.
Head coach Mike Horn praised his team's performance despite challenging weather conditions: "The Warriors battled wind gusts of over 40 miles an hour and played very strongly," he said. He highlighted strong performances from Josh DiCarlo, Max Leppelmeier, and individual competitor Josh Lahner. Horn expressed optimism for the final round: "We know what we need to do tomorrow and the Warriors are gonna do their best to get it done."
Josh DiCarlo led Wayne State with a score of 136 (-8), placing him second overall. Max Leppelmeier finished tied for seventh with a score of 140 (-4), while Josh Lahner, competing individually, tied for thirteenth with a score of 142 (-2). Other team members included Andrew Daily (T40), Tyler Hurtubise (T51), and Luc Warnock (T51).
The top five teams after day one are Findlay and Missouri-St. Louis tied for first at 567 (-9), followed by Wayne State at 569 (-7). Missouri S&T holds fourth place with a score of 574 (-2), while Hillsdale rounds out the top five at even par.
Wayne State aims to secure its seventh tournament title this season as they prepare for the final round on Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.
