Wayne State University's softball team engaged in a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State University, with each team securing a win. This encounter took place in Detroit as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games.

In the first game, Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), labeled as the pre-season favorite, achieved a decisive victory with a score of 13-1. WSU's starting pitcher, Sydney Long, had difficulties early on, allowing the Cardinals to establish an early lead. SVSU capitalized on multiple scoring opportunities, including back-to-back home runs by Emma Helvie and Kenzie Bromley. Wayne State's lone run was scored by freshman Katelyn DeWitt, who successfully executed a double steal in the fourth inning. "SVSU took advantage of wildness by WSU starter Sydney Long," noted the match report. Macy Irelan was instrumental for SVSU in the pitching role, allowing just one unearned run through five innings.

The second game saw a change in fortunes for Wayne State. They emerged victorious with an 8-3 win. After falling behind early, WSU managed to score five runs in the fourth inning, largely through solid hitting by players like Molly Hool and Morgan Williams. Junior Grace Fisher's performance was significant in the pitching circle, allowing only three earned runs over the duration of the game. Wayne State coach commented that "Fisher allowed three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts to four walks."

Anticipating their upcoming games, Wayne State's schedule is adjusted due to weather considerations. The team is set to play against Roosevelt and Parkside in the coming days. "Wayne State’s weekend schedule has been altered due to impending weather," the announcement revealed.
