Wayne State University and Wisconsin Parkside softball teams faced off in a GLIAC doubleheader that ended with each team securing a victory, allowing Wayne State to complete a 3-1 road trip. In game one, Parkside defeated Wayne State 10-1 in five innings. The home team Rangers leveraged a powerful performance from Mia Johnson, who hit three home runs and drove in six runs. Wayne State’s Logan Forman managed to hit a home run in the top of the third, but the team couldn’t capitalize further. Wayne State's pitchers Hayden Batton and Sydney Long struggled, allowing a combined ten earned runs.
In game two, Wayne State rebounded for a 3-2 win. Parkside initially took the lead in the first inning with a single run, but Wayne State's bats responded in the fifth inning. Molly Hool doubled, and Mady Ruczynski followed with a home run to tie the score. A subsequent RBI triple by freshman Kate DeWitt gave Wayne State the edge. Grace Fisher pitched seven innings for Wayne State, holding off Parkside despite giving up seven hits. Wayne State’s win in the second game concluded their road trip on a high note.
Both teams now hold identical overall and conference records of 5-5 in the GLIAC. Wayne State will next host Tiffin in a mid-week doubleheader at their home field.
