Wayne State University's women's tennis team achieved a 5-2 victory against Lake Superior State University on Friday afternoon, extending their record to 7-3 overall and maintaining an unbeaten status in the GLIAC with a 4-0 mark.
During the doubles competition, the Warriors won two out of three matches. Malak Arafat and Justine Beaulieu overcame Trinity Ly and Tayla Brasier with a score of 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 2 doubles match. Shanice Weekes and Shantala Uzcategui also secured a win in the No. 3 spot, defeating Kyna Decruy and Martina Oviedo 6-1. In the No. 1 doubles position, however, Dea Gorgidze and Anais Ruyssen faced a setback, losing to Maddie Whip and Valentina Parodi 1-6.
In the singles matches, Arafat continued her successful performance by defeating Brasier 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Gorgidze secured a victory in the No. 3 singles match against Parodi, finishing 6-4, 6-4. Beaulieu and Uzcategui both claimed wins, with Beaulieu prevailing over Decruy 6-0, 6-1, and Uzcategui surpassing Oviedo 6-4, 6-2. Ruyssen and Weekes were challenged in three-set matches and were ultimately defeated by Whip and Ly, respectively.
The Warriors are set to move on to their next match at Michigan Tech University on April 4.
