Wayne State University's men's golf team concluded the first day of the Ken Partridge Invitational with a lead, posting a five-under 283 at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. The team outperformed 19 other teams at the event, with individual highlights from Tyler Hurtubise who is tied for fourth place with a three-under 69.

"Really good day and good start for the Warriors," commented head coach Mike Horn. "It was one of the coldest days we've had on the course, and we slashed through the muck and mud all day. From Ian Smith with a really rough start and coming back to contribute with a 73 to all four other starters and the individual Josh Lahner, all the Warriors contributed again today. Good job to Josh for his two under par 70. Excellent rounds by Josh DiCarlo, Tyler Hurtubise and Luc Warnock all getting us solid red numbers."

The individual standings for Wayne State out of 112 golfers are as follows: Tyler Hurtubise from Essex, Ontario, tied for fourth with a 69 (-3); Josh Lahner from Roselle, Illinois, tied for tenth with a 70 (-2) competing as an individual; Luc Warnock from McGregor, Ontario, also tied for tenth with a 70 (-2); Josh DiCarlo from Amherstburg, Ontario, tied for 18th with a 71 (-1); and both Ian Smith from Canton, Michigan, and Max Leppelmeier from Wauseon, Ohio, tied for 35th with a 73 (+1).

The team standings currently have Wayne State in first with 283 (-5), followed by Drury and Missouri S&T tied for second at 285 (-3), Grand Valley State in fourth with 286 (-2), and Quincy in fifth with 287 (-1). The 20-team field is set to continue the competition with the second round scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Monday.
