The Wayne State University women's golf team finished the first round of Ferris State's Bulldog Fall Classic in seventh place out of 13 teams. The tournament is being held at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Wayne State recorded a team score of 318, which is 30 strokes over par. This placed them just two shots away from breaking into the top five teams after Saturday's round.
Individually, Claudia Portillo and Ting-Yu Kuo led the Warriors. Both golfers posted scores of 78, six over par, putting them in a tie for 16th place among all competitors. Other Wayne State golfers included Clara Laffitte, who tied for 29th with an 80; Orianna Bylsma, tied for 43rd with an 82; and Sonia Bayahya, tied for 65th after shooting an 86.
Grand Valley State leads the field with a score of 298 (+10), followed by Ferris State at 300 (+12) and Gannon at 309 (+21). Davenport and Tiffin are tied for fourth at 316 (+28), while Saginaw Valley State holds sixth place with a score of 317 (+29).
The final round will take place on Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for Wayne State.
