Wayne State fencers compete at North American Cup ahead of conference championships

Several members of the Wayne State University men’s and women’s fencing teams took part in the February North American Cup, which was held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati.

For the men’s team, Connor Desautels, Gabriel Dumoulin, Mitchell Gatrell, Sam Gneuhs, and Finn McIsaac competed in various events. In Division 1 Men’s Sabre, Dumoulin finished with a 4-3 record while Desautels posted a 1-5 record. In Division 1 Men’s Foil, Gatrell ended with a 4-3 record and a +6 indicator in his pool; McIsaac recorded a 1-5 result and Gneuhs went 0-6. Dumoulin also participated in Junior Men’s Sabre and achieved a 4-3 overall record with a +9 indicator in pools. McIsaac fenced in Junior Men’s Foil and finished with a 4-4 record.

On the women’s side, Ludovica Mancini was the only participant from Wayne State. She finished with a 2-5 overall record in Division 1 Women’s Foil.

The next competition for both squads will be at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. They are scheduled to compete at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships on Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22 at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

Wayne State Warriors Women’s Fencing is an intercollegiate athletics program that competes at the NCAA Division II level within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The team is based in Detroit, Michigan. More information can be found on their official website.
