The Wayne State University men’s swimming and diving team finished the second day of the 2026 GLIAC Championships in second place. The event, held at the Holland Community Aquatic Center, marks the halfway point of the four-day competition. Wayne State has accumulated 308 points, trailing Grand Valley State, which leads with 411 points after 20 events.
The current team standings are as follows: Grand Valley State is first with 411 points, followed by Wayne State with 308 points. Northern Michigan holds third place with 280 points. Other teams in the competition include St Cloud State (216.5), Saginaw Valley State (208), Davenport (133), Augustana (124.5), and Lake Superior State (90).
In relay action, Wayne State’s team of Olin Charnstrom, Gabriel Arias, Paul DeMartini, and Leland Curanovic placed fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:15.81.
Individual performances included Olin Charnstrom finishing second in the championship finals of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36.99, meeting an NCAA B Cut standard. In the consolation finals for that event, Kadem Goksu Erdagli took ninth place at 1:39.36, also earning an NCAA B Cut.
Gabriel Arias secured second place in the championship finals of the 400 individual medley at 3:54.24 (NCAA B Cut), while Adam Kuc was sixth at 3:59.28. In consolation finals for this event, Alex Duhaime finished thirteenth (4:01.76) and William Debroux fourteenth (4:05.54).
In the consolation finals for the 100 butterfly, Lorenzo Tassinari placed eleventh with a time of 48.36 seconds (NCAA B Cut), and Paul DeMartini was fourteenth at 49.10 seconds.
The conference championships will continue on Sunday with preliminary rounds beginning at 10 a.m., again taking place inside the Holland Community Aquatic Center.
