The Wayne State University men’s swimming and diving team saw 13 of its athletes qualify for the finals after Sunday’s preliminary rounds at the GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Kadem Goksu Erdagli led the field with a time of 4:27.75, meeting the NCAA B standard. Teammates William Debroux and Khalil Ben Ajmia followed closely behind, also achieving NCAA B cuts with times of 4:27.98 and 4:28.37, respectively. Harrison Arnold secured eighth place with a time of 4:32.21, while Liam Seifert advanced to the consolation finals by finishing thirteenth in 4:33.80.
For the 100-yard backstroke, Olin Charnstrom finished first with a time of 47.78 (NCAA B cut). Lorenzo Tassinari tied for fourth at 48.00 (NCAA B cut), and Gabriel Arias took seventh in 48.73 to advance to the championship final.
Lucas Safta moved on to the consolation finals in the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a time of 56.54.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Paul DeMartini advanced to the championship final by finishing seventh in 1:50.53, while Matt Hernandez qualified for the consolation final with a thirteenth-place finish.
On three-meter diving, Max Wasiniak placed first with a score of 507.25 (NCAA B cut), and John Martin finished seventh at 467.10 (NCAA B cut) to both secure spots in the championship final.
The finals session is scheduled for Sunday evening at Holland Community Aquatic Center and will include competition in multiple events such as the 800 free relay.
Wayne State Warriors Men’s Swimming and Diving competes in both conference and non-conference meets throughout their season as part of their collegiate athletics program dedicated to intercollegiate swimming and diving competitions (official website).
