The Wayne State University men’s swimming and diving team completed the second day of preliminary events at the GLIAC Championships on Saturday at the Holland Community Aquatic Center in Holland, Michigan.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Paul DeMartini finished ninth with a time of 48.38 seconds, meeting the NCAA B standard. Lorenzo Tassinari placed tenth with a time of 48.55 seconds. Both swimmers advanced to the consolation finals. Vincent Bruno (33rd), Lucas Safta (37th), and Mitchell McMath did not advance.
For the 400-yard individual medley, Gabriel Arias secured second place in 3:56.35, also earning an NCAA B cut and advancing to the championship finals. Adam Kuc will join him after finishing sixth in 3:58.86. William Debroux (11th) and Alex Duhaime (12th) progressed to the consolation finals, while Matt Hernandez (17th), Liam Seifert (18th), and Nicholas Slater did not advance.
In the 200-yard freestyle event, Olin Charnstrom qualified for the championship finals by placing third with a time of 1:37.55 and achieving an NCAA B cut. Kadem Goksu Erdagli finished eleventh in 1:39.36, also meeting an NCAA B standard and advancing to the consolation finals. Leland Curanovic (18th), Khalil Ben Ajmia (21st), Harrison Arnold (24th), Vincent Bruno (28th), Lochlain Hart (29th), Griffin Damuth (35th), Ian Frank, Muhammed Eliwat, and Thomas McCourt did not advance.
Saturday evening’s finals are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., featuring these events along with the 400 medley relay.
Wayne State Warriors Men’s Swimming & Diving participates in both conference and non-conference meets throughout its season as part of its full athletic schedule according to its official website.
