The Wayne State University men’s tennis team will host Purdue University Northwest on Friday, April 10, and Roosevelt University on Saturday, April 11, with both matches set for 2:00 PM at the Wayne State campus in Detroit.
These upcoming matches are part of the team’s regular season as it competes in NCAA Division II and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to the official website. The program focuses on achieving competitive excellence and fostering athlete development in conference and national competitions.
Last week, Wayne State split its matches by falling to #15-ranked UIndy with a score of 4-2 before sweeping Michigan Tech 7-0. The Warriors are currently ranked No. 18 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. In singles play, Luis Klaus holds the No. 42 national ranking, while Klaus and Harry Forsyth are ranked No. 37 as a doubles pairing.
Purdue Northwest enters Friday’s match with a record of nine wins and seven losses overall, including three wins in conference play. Seven of their victories have come at home; they have won two out of seven road games this season. Senior Samuel Dickson has earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors previously and is currently on a four-match win streak at top singles despite an overall record of four wins and nine losses this year. Head coach Selenay Harper has led PNW since spring 2024, guiding them to their first NCAA Midwest Regional appearance last year.
Roosevelt arrives with six wins against eleven losses so far this season ahead of its contest with Ferris State on Friday; it holds one win in four GLIAC matchups. Juan Caicedo leads at No.1 singles for Roosevelt with an even six-win-six-loss record while partnering Justus Peters for four doubles victories out of twelve attempts at the top spot. Dominic DeNardo is serving his third year as head coach for Roosevelt’s men’s tennis team.
