The Wayne State University men’s tennis team saw two of its players recognized for their academic achievements in the 2024-25 season. Cedric Drenth and Benjamin Hill were honored with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic accolades. Over the past 23 years, the team has had 106 honorees.

To qualify for this recognition, student-athletes must be active members of the roster at the end of the season and cannot be freshmen or first-year transfer students. The grade-point averages are calculated through the winter semester.

Cedric Drenth, a senior from Sulzbach, Germany, who majors in Finance at Altkönigschule Kronberg, maintained a GPA of 3.96. This marks his third consecutive year on the All-Academic Excellence Team, which recognizes GPAs between 3.5 and 4.0.

Benjamin Hill, a sophomore from Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, studying Sport Management at Burgau-Gymnasium, achieved a GPA of 3.55 in his first year of eligibility.

Both Drenth and Hill received College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors and were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes this year. Additionally, Drenth was voted as the CSC Division 2 Men’s Tennis Academic All-American of the Year and was awarded both GLIAC Player of the Year and GLIAC Commissioner’s Award for his exceptional athletic and academic performance.
