Seven members of the Wayne State University women’s tennis team have been recognized with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic honors for the 2024-25 season. This marks the second-highest number of honorees in program history, following a record of eight in the 2020-21 season. Over the past 23 seasons, 91 student-athletes from WSU’s women’s tennis team have received All-Academic recognition.

To qualify for these accolades, student-athletes must be active on the roster at the end of the season and not be freshmen or first-year transfer students. The grade-point averages considered are calculated through the winter semester.

The All-Academic Excellence Team includes Dessyre Obedencio, Anais Ruyssen, Martyna Szpakowska, and Shanice Weekes, all maintaining GPAs between 3.5 and 4.0. Notably, Anais Ruyssen has made this list for three consecutive years after transferring to WSU.

The All-Academic Team recognizes Malak Arafat, Justine Beaulieu, and Dea Gorgidze for their GPAs ranging from 3.0 to 3.49. For some athletes like Justine Beaulieu and Dea Gorgidze, this is their first time being honored.

Anais Ruyssen was also voted a Second Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators (CSC), while Shanice Weekes received Academic All-District honors. Additionally, Malak Arafat earned the Sportsmanship Award, and Anais Ruyssen was named Player of the Year in the conference.
