Wayne State women’s basketball secures road win against Wisconsin-Parkside

The Wayne State University women’s basketball team secured a 63-54 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday. With this result, Wayne State improves to 20-6 overall and 15-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). This marks the second consecutive season that the team has reached 20 wins, and it is the fifth time under head coach Carrie Lohr.

Wayne State began slowly, trailing by four points before tying the game early in the first quarter. After an initial exchange of baskets, the Warriors went on an eight-point run to take control. They finished the opening period ahead after another short scoring burst.

In the second quarter, Wayne State extended its lead before Parkside responded with a run that reduced their deficit to three points at halftime. The third quarter saw both teams trade scoring runs, with Mackenzie Miller contributing five straight points for Wayne State to help maintain their advantage.

During the fourth quarter, Parkside’s Cassidy Arni scored early but Wayne State pulled away with a series of successful possessions that gave them a double-digit lead. Although Parkside closed with an eight-point surge, Wayne State held on for a nine-point win.

Gabi Lutchka led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds for Wayne State. McKenna Ferguson added 17 points and collected nine rebounds. Taylor Thompson contributed four assists. For Parkside, Lexi Bugajski scored 13 points while Alli Hampel grabbed ten rebounds.

Wayne State shot just over 41 percent from the field compared to Parkside’s 31 percent. The Warriors also held an advantage in rebounding with 45 boards to Parkside’s 35.

The Warriors will return home to Detroit—where they play their home games according to their official website—to face Lake Superior State on February 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Wayne State Warriors Women’s Basketball competes in intercollegiate athletics and has previously earned NCAA Tournament berths as well as GLIAC division titles including North Division in 2012-13 and South Division in 2014-15 (source).
