The Wayne State University women’s tennis team has received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award. Six student-athletes were also recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team distinction, programs must have a team grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.00 scale, include all student-athletes listed on the institutional eligibility form, and factor in all varsity letter winners into the cumulative team GPA for the academic year. Wayne State reported a 3.616 GPA during the 2024-25 academic year.

Student-athletes earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors by achieving at least a 3.5 GPA for the current academic year and being listed on their institution’s eligibility form.

The six Warriors named as ITA Scholar-Athletes are Anais Ruyssen (MBA), Dea Gorgidze (Management), Dessyre Obedencio (Nursing), Shanice Weekes (World Languages, Literatures and Cultures Honors), Martyna Szpakowska (Psychology Honors), and Shantala Uzcategui (Exercise and Sport Science).

“The Wayne State University women’s tennis team, which made its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals, has been honored with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award while six student-athletes received Scholar-Athlete accolades.”

Wayne State’s women’s tennis program finished with a 14-5 record during the season, going undefeated in conference play within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and winning both the GLIAC Regular Season title and NCAA Midwest Regional title. The team also recorded an undefeated home match record and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
