The Wayne State University women’s tennis team will host Purdue University Northwest on April 10 and Roosevelt University on April 11, with both matches set to begin at 10:00 AM, according to an announcement released Apr. 9.
These matches are part of the intercollegiate athletics program at Wayne State Warriors Women’s Tennis, which competes in NCAA Division II athletics as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference according to the official athletics website. The team operates from Detroit, Michigan and offers opportunities for student-athletes to participate in competitive collegiate tennis according to the official athletics website.
Wayne State comes into these home matches after a successful weekend that included a 5-2 win over UIndy and a 7-0 sweep against Michigan Tech. Senior Martyna Szpakowska was named GLIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance during those contests.
Purdue Northwest holds a season record of six wins and eleven losses, including one win in conference play. The team recently secured its first conference victory by defeating Roosevelt University. Elisoa Andriantefihasina leads PNW at No.1 singles with ten wins this season, while Haizea Lopez and Monti Gay Coello have recorded four doubles victories together. Selenay Heper serves as head coach for Purdue Northwest.
Roosevelt University enters its upcoming match against Ferris State with seven wins and ten losses overall, having lost its last five matches. Milena Novikova has won four out of her last five singles contests while competing across multiple positions in the lineup. Dominic DeNardo is head coach for Roosevelt’s women’s tennis squad.
In recent rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Wayne State is listed as No.45 nationally among women’s teams. Individually, Szpakowska is ranked No.48 in singles play while Malak Arafat stands at No.58.
