Wayne State adds seven freshmen to baseball roster

Ryan Kelley, the all-time winningest coach in Wayne State baseball history, begins his 17th season guiding the Warriors with the addition of seven freshmen this fall.

Joining the WSU baseball program are pitcher Rocco Cardinale (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North), pitcher Braylon Laroo (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central), catcher/outfielder Oscar Pace (Brighton, Mich. / Hartland), pitcher/third baseman Rhett Roeser (New Baltimore, Mich. / Warren De La Salle), pitcher Carson Tehan (LaSalle, Ont. / Sandwich S.S.), pitcher Kavan White (Whitby, Ont. / Donald A. Wilson S.S.), and infielder Steven Whitted (Beverly Hills, Mich. / Birmingham Groves).

Rocco Cardinale is a right-handed pitcher from Grosse Pointe Woods who graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School in 2024. He was a three-year varsity letterwinner for the Norsemen and recorded 49 strikeouts while allowing just nine earned runs on 30 hits. Cardinale also played football and basketball and served as a team captain in all three sports.

Braylon Laroo is another right-handed pitcher hailing from Canton who graduated from Detroit Catholic Central in 2024. He concluded his prep career with 128 strikeouts in 133 innings and received All-Catholic League honors each of his final three seasons.

Oscar Pace joins as a catcher/outfielder from Brighton who graduated from Hartland High School in 2024. He batted .300 as a junior and threw out 43 percent of opponent base stealers while receiving Scholar-Athlete recognition.

Rhett Roeser is a right-handed pitcher and third baseman from New Baltimore who graduated from Warren De La Salle in 2024. He earned All-Catholic and All-Region recognition for baseball and served as a football team captain.

Carson Tehan is a right-handed pitcher from LaSalle who graduated from Sandwich Secondary School in Ontario in 2024. He played shortstop for his school team and participated at the Prep Baseball Future Games as part of Team Canada.

Kavan White is a left-handed pitcher from Whitby who graduated from Donald A. Wilson Secondary School in Ontario in 2024. He was a two-year team captain for his high school team.

Steven Whitted joins as an infielder from Beverly Hills who graduated from Birmingham Groves High School in 2024. He batted .442 as a senior with an on-base percentage of .523 and stole 35 bases during his final year.

These new recruits are expected to bring fresh talent to Wayne State's baseball roster under Coach Ryan Kelley's leadership.
