After receiving the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week award for the eighth time in his career, Karter Fitzpatrick has gained national recognition. Fitzpatrick was honored as National Pitcher of the Week by both D2 Baseball Insider and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
In his final home and regular-season start, Fitzpatrick delivered a seven-inning perfect game during Wayne State's 3-0 victory over Purdue Northwest. The pitcher retired 21 batters consecutively with seven strikeouts using only 64 pitches, completing the game in just 75 minutes. This performance improved WSU's all-time wins leader's season record to 8-2.
Fitzpatrick and his team, seeded third, will commence their defense of the GLIAC Tournament Championship against fourth-seeded Davenport on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Lansing, Michigan.
