Wayne State University's baseball team faced a challenging start to their 2025 season, suffering a 13-0 defeat against Newberry College. The game took place on Friday afternoon in Newberry, South Carolina. This marks Wayne State's first game of the season, bringing their record to 0-1, while Newberry improved to 5-0 overall.

In the matchup, Wayne State struggled offensively, managing only five hits throughout the game. Contributions came from Mason McGuire from Lyon Township, Tony Hatzigeorgiou from Oxford, Aidan Arbogast from Livonia, Jacoby Dale from Roseville, and Logan Van Sicklen from Waterford Township.

Newberry capitalized on their opportunities at bat by scoring 13 runs off 11 hits. They scored one run each in the second and third innings, six runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth inning, and concluded with three runs in the seventh inning.

Five pitchers represented Wayne State during this opening game. Evan Langlois pitched for 3.1 innings; Gabe Nazelli contributed one inning; Rocco Cardinale was responsible for securing five outs; Will DeMasse completed an inning; and Braylon Laroo closed out with three outs.

The series continues with games two and three scheduled for Saturday. The first pitch of Saturday's initial game is set for noon.
