Wayne State University's baseball team faced Newberry in a doubleheader, securing a split with one win and one loss. The games took place in Newberry, South Carolina. Wayne State achieved their first victory of the season with an 11-9 win but fell short in the second game, losing 4-2. The two teams are set to conclude their four-game series on Sunday.

In the first game, Wayne State scored 11 runs across several innings. The top five hitters contributed significantly, going 7-for-23 and driving in five runs. Notable performances included Reagan Paulina's double and home runs by Aidan Arbogast and Logan Van Sicklen.

Pitcher Macio Miller started for Wayne State, allowing four runs over four innings. He was supported by relievers Coy Plummer, TJ McAllister, Ethan Getting, and Carson Tehan. McAllister earned his second career win with a scoreless inning while Tehan secured the save in his debut.

The second game saw Wayne State take an early lead with Drew Hill's solo home run. However, Newberry responded quickly to take a 2-1 lead in the first inning. Mason McGuire's single tied the game briefly before Newberry pulled ahead again due to errors.

Keegan Pulford-Thorpe made his debut as a starter for Wayne State but struggled with control issues, walking six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up four runs (three earned). Robert Klann provided solid relief pitching for Wayne State.
