The Wayne State University women's basketball team has been ranked eighth in the latest Midwest Regional Ranking by the NCAA. The ranking places the Warriors among their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rivals, including Grand Valley State, Northern Michigan, Ferris State, and Parkside. Additionally, four schools from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and one from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) are included.
According to the NCAA's structure, conference tournament winners from the GLIAC, G-MAC, and GLVC will automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Five additional teams will receive at-large bids, making a total of eight teams advancing to the tournament.
The next update to this regional poll is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5. This will be followed by Selection Sunday on March 9.
The current full regional ranking is as follows: Grand Valley State holds the top spot, followed by Ashland in second place. Northern Michigan is third with Ferris State in fourth. Malone ranks fifth while Lewis takes sixth place. Findlay stands seventh just ahead of Wayne State in eighth position. Wisconsin-Parkside and Hillsdale complete the list in ninth and tenth places respectively.
Wayne State's team will next compete against Ferris State on Thursday, February 27 at 5:30 PM at home.
