The Wayne State University baseball team is preparing to host a four-game series against new league member Roosevelt University this weekend at Harwell Field. The series will feature a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m., followed by single games on Saturday and Sunday, also scheduled for 1 p.m.
Roosevelt University, under the leadership of head coach Jason Becker, comes into the game with a 7-21 overall record and a 1-7 standing in the GLIAC. Becker, a coach with over 13 years of experience, has accumulated a career record of 372-276. Prior to his tenure at Roosevelt, he spent nine years coaching at Robert Morris University.
Roosevelt's offensive lineup has a team batting average of .268. Key players include seniors James Berry and Kekoa Ogawa, with batting averages of .400 and .388, respectively. Berry is a leader in several statistical categories including runs scored, total bases, and stolen bases. Jack Kieffer and Sebastian Casillas both maintain a batting average of .284.
Roosevelt's pitching staff presents a team ERA of 8.32. Omar Abuelhija has pitched more innings than any other player on the team. Keegan Bobbitt leads in strikeouts, narrowly ahead of freshman Kaden Foran. Despite these efforts, the team has faced challenges on the road this season, winning only two out of 16 away games.
The Lakers are seeking to break a five-game losing streak, having lost eight of their last nine games.
