Mason McGuire, a senior utility player for Wayne State University's baseball team, has been recognized as a Second Team All-Region selection by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). The announcement was made on Monday.
McGuire's versatility on the field was evident as he was named Second Team All-GLIAC at both catcher and second base, building on his Honorable Mention recognition in 2024. Throughout the season, he participated in 51 of the team's 55 games, starting in 49 across six different positions. These included 16 starts at catcher, 13 at shortstop, eight at second base, six in right field, five at third base, and one in center field. Offensively, McGuire achieved a career-high batting average of .341 (59-for-173), ranking second on his team behind Bennett Hitzelberger's .349 and tied for twelfth in the league.
The third-year Warrior also led his team with 40 runs scored and topped several other categories including doubles (nine), home runs (three), RBIs (34), walks (27), hit-by-pitches (three), and stolen bases with an impressive 18-of-19 success rate. His slugging percentage stood at .445 with a .432 on-base percentage. McGuire recorded 16 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI outings while maintaining an 11-game hitting streak and reaching base consecutively over 20 games. Additionally, he started at least once in eight of the nine spots within the batting order.
In postseason play, McGuire was honored as part of the GLIAC All-Tournament Team for his performance as a utility player. During Wayne State's five tournament games, he hit .316 (6-for-19) while starting four games as catcher and one game at third base.
