Five members of the Wayne State University baseball team have been awarded Academic All-District honors by College Sports Communicators. The honored athletes are Jacoby Dale, Bennett Hitzelberger, Gabe Nazelli, Mason McGuire, and Reagan Paulina.
Jacoby Dale, a graduate center fielder with a 3.66 GPA in Sport Management and Sports Administration, played in 51 games and achieved a .305 batting average. He was recognized as a Second Team All-GLIAC honoree.
Bennett Hitzelberger, a junior first baseman/designated hitter with a 3.79 GPA in Finance, played in 52 games and led the team with a .349 batting average. He received an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.
Gabe Nazelli, a redshirt junior pitcher with a 3.77 GPA in Exercise & Sport Science, appeared in 13 contests and had a win-loss record of 5-5 with an ERA of 4.08. He was also named to the Second Team All-GLIAC.
Mason McGuire, a senior utility player with a 3.78 GPA in Sport Management, played in 51 games and had a batting average of .341. He was selected for both the GLIAC and Midwest Region Second Teams.
Reagan Paulina, a graduate utility player with GPAs of 3.79 and 4.00 in Finance, appeared in 45 games achieving an average of .264.
Nazelli and McGuire will advance to the national ballot for CSC Academic All-America honors to be announced on July 1 at noon.
