Wayne State University’s baseball program has announced changes to its coaching staff for the 2025-26 academic year. Head coach Ryan Kelley, entering his eighteenth year, confirmed that Seth Marano will serve as the team’s pitching coach and Paul Vossen has been appointed as a graduate assistant coach.
Marano, a former volunteer assistant and student-athlete with Wayne State from 2021 to 2024, joined the coaching staff prior to the 2025 season after a six-year playing career. He spent his first two years at Lansing Community College before transferring to Wayne State in Detroit in 2020. Over his collegiate career, Marano appeared in 35 games with 32 starts, recording a 4.47 ERA across 189.1 innings and achieving a 15-7 overall record. His standout season came in 2023 when he posted a 6-1 record with a 3.68 ERA over 66 innings and was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team.
Coach Kelley commented on Marano’s appointment: "Coach Marano was a very impressive competitor with tremendous pitchability skills during his playing career in our uniform. He accumulated significant mound time at a high-level junior college, in the Northwoods League, and obviously in NCAA regular and postseason action with Wayne State University. His playing and training experiences will be instrumental as he relates to our present and future pitching staff. He will be instrumental in cultivating a competitive environment that will compliment skill set and training development. Yet, his passion for our baseball program, University, and our student-athletes, will help advance our culture forward."
Paul Vossen joins Wayne State after concluding his own collegiate playing career at three institutions over five seasons: University of Iowa (2020-21), Utah Valley University (2022), and St. Bonaventure (2024-25). Originally from Reno, Nevada, Vossen brings experience from various programs across the country.
On Vossen’s addition to the staff, Coach Kelley stated: "We are very excited to add coach Vossen to our coaching staff. His knowledge of our game, desire to be with our University, and passion for Detroit were impressive touch points during this selection process. He has built key experiences from significant stops across the United States during his baseball journey. We look forward to him assisting with our position-player development, day-to-day operations, and continuing to enhance the Wayne State University baseball program. It will be great having him in the Green and Gold!"
