Wayne State women’s fencing posts strong individual results at OSU Elite Invitational

The Wayne State University women's fencing team participated in the first day of competition at The Ohio State University's Elite Invitational on November 8, held at the French Field House in Columbus.

Wayne State secured a 15-12 victory over the Air Force Academy. The team was defeated by Ohio State (16-11), the University of North Carolina (18-9), and Denison University (15-12).

In foil, sophomore Anabella Acurero Gonzalez and senior Ludovica Mancini both achieved strong performances with identical 10-2 records. Acurero Gonzalez went undefeated against Ohio State, Air Force, and North Carolina, adding another win against Denison. Mancini recorded perfect results against Air Force and Denison and posted 2-1 marks versus Ohio State and North Carolina.

For sabre, Reagan Byars and Shriya Bangalore each won two bouts. Byars collected victories against opponents from Ohio State and Air Force, while Bangalore's wins came against Air Force. Mikhala Rivers finished with three wins—two against Denison and one versus Air Force. Mehreen Siddiqui did not register a win on the first day.

In epee, Reka Galfalvy and Salma Abdrabou both ended the day with 10-2 records. Galfalvy posted perfect scores against North Carolina and Denison, along with two wins each over Ohio State and Air Force. Abdrabou also went undefeated versus Ohio State, Air Force, and Denison, adding a win over North Carolina.

The Wayne State women's fencing team is scheduled to continue its participation in the OSU Elite Invitational on Sunday, November 9.
